Rita Joyce Romer, age 69, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at her home.

Funeral Services for Rita will take place at Clark Family Funeral Chapel on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at 12 p.m. Interment will follow at Woodland Cemetery in Rosebush. Following interment, a luncheon will be held at Reflections Reception Center. The family will greet friends on Wednesday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Wiimaajiikwad, "Where We Grow", the Indian Education fund through Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.

Rita was born May 21, 1957, in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of Ardene and Doris (Collins) Romer. She was a graduate of Elizabeth Ann Johnson High School in Mt. Morris with the class of 1975. She attended University of Michigan, Flint campus for her college education. Rita served as the Director of Indian Education at Mt. Morris Public Schools for many years, retiring in 1998. She was a proud member of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe and loved to teach about her heritage. Rita loved to gamble at the casino, read books, watch game shows, and play games on her phone. She treasured frequent small trips driving and talking with her daughter Allison.

Rita is survived by her children, Christopher (Holly) Romer, Allison (Richard) Green, and Zach (Deshanta) Colter, all of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren Rosemarie "Minnow" Green and Asher Green; brother Frank Romer of Clio; sister Yvonne Romer of Mt. Pleasant; and several nieces and nephews.

Rita was preceded in death by her parents; grandson Christopher Romer; and brother Joey Romer.
