On February 4, 1978, Paul married Diane Konewko in Portage, Michigan, his wife of 48 years. Paul worked as a Machinist for General Motors and Union Pump Company for many years until his retirement in 2013. Paul served as the collective bargaining chairman and was a proud union member, serving his fellow employees under the International Association of Machinists. He previously chaired the Title IX Indian Education Committee for Kalamazoo County Public Schools and was the Pow Wow Chairman for the Kalamazoo Valley Indian Association.

Pleasant; grandchildren Emma Schramm, Private First Class Adam Schramm, Owen Schramm, and Timothy Schramm; brother Mike Schramm of Canadian Lakes; sisters Terri (Jim) Bonnema of Virginia, and Kelly Hartwell of Mt.
