Donald Emerson Nelson - July 15, 1965 - February 12, 2026
2/17/2026 9:53:00 AM - Final Journey

Donald Emerson Nelson, 60, a lifelong resident of Au Gres, passed away at home on Thursday,

February 12, 2026, after a hard fought battle with cancer. He remained a strong warrior until the

end. He is finally at peace and no longer in pain.

Donald was born on July 15, 1965 to parents, Bernice and Lawrence Nelson

He was a devoted son, brother, uncle, and friend. More than anything in this world, he was a

dad and a grandpa (grampy) who loved his family deeply. His six children and three

granddaughters meant everything to him. Being there for his kids was the most important role in

his life.

Donald had a huge love for music and always seemed to have a soundtrack for his life. Being in

his house felt like stepping into a record shop that honored all decades. He was also a

dedicated Detroit Lions fan who stayed loyal through every season and never stopped cheering

them on. As he said, he was a Lions fan before it was cool.

Donald will be remembered for his unique sense of humor. He could make anyone laugh in the

most unexpected ways. He had the biggest (mechanical) heart and the deepest love for his

family. The memories he created with the people closest to him will be forever treasured. He

will be missed beyond words and endlessly loved.

Preceded in death by father Lawrence and brother Larry. He is survived by his six marvelous children Lindsay (Christopher), Madalynn (Ray), Elizabeth,Sophia, Donovan, and Parker (Maleah); three beloved granddaughters Emery, Rosalina, and

Dakota; loving mother Bernice; amazing siblings Linda (Terry), Donna (Tim), Ronald (Lugean),

Diane, Sandra (Dale), Timothy (Peggy), Brenda (Scott); many wonderful nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Donald will be held on February 16, 2026. Public visitation at Buresh

Funeral Home in Au Gres, MI is from 10am-1pm. Service starts at 1pm with precession to follow.

Obituary lovingly written by his family.
